*More About Ellen*
Welcome! It takes a lot of courage to begin therapy, and I am honored to join you. Navigating life can be hard and I am here to work with you through the ups and downs. I bring warmth and non-judgement to help you recognize and experience your emotions as well as your capacity for change. We'll emphasize the importance of your self and emotional awareness to help you regain power and recognize patterns that keep you feeling stuck and powerless.
*What To Expect From Our Work Together*
Expect to be listened to, valued, and heard while you’re in sessions with me. I am a relational therapist and feel there is no one-sized-fits-all approach to therapy. While I am trained in trauma modalities, I want to work together to find what treatment works best with you. I use a non-directive approach to meet you where you are—allowing you to have a more active role within the therapeutic relationship. I believe an important part of therapy is addressing the social, economic, and cultural influences on you and your life.
*What You Need to Know About Me*
I know what it’s like to be an outsider and new to a place! I have lived in different states as a child (Ky, NC, and Texas) and different countries (New Zealand, Canada, Poland, and India) as an adult. Because of all of these moves, I have developed a whole lot of cross-cultural understanding!
I am at heart a playful and fun-loving person and have worked previously with young children, high school and college students, and adults as a teacher, advisor, and group therapist. I love comedy, especially stand-up, and have a background in working with Second City as an improv comedian. I love reading, listening to podcasts, and building community, and serve on boards with a handful of area non-profits.
I have a bachelors degree in Mass Media & Gender and Women's Studies, a Teaching English as a Second Language certification through Cambridge University, and a Masters in Education in Counseling. I am also a consultant in EMDR and trained in perinatal mental health and mindful self-compassion.
