*More About Maia*
Making a choice to seek counseling is a huge step and I am passionate about supporting you. Whatever it is you're struggling with - whether it's parenting, your relationship, college life, depression or just a general feeling of being overwhelmed - therapy can help. It's not a magic cure, but it can give you the tools and support you need to get through even the toughest of times. You might be surprised at how much it can change your life for the better!
*What to Expect From Our Work Together*
I will work closely with college age adults, couples and adults to help you clarify issues important to you, so together we can navigate together towards your goals. Sometimes previous life experiences can make it difficult to create something new; so we will spend time reflecting on critical past experiences, while staying connected to present-day challenges, to support the healing process. I love helping people create, or identify, their own metaphor within the therapy relationship and find it is often central to the work we do together.
If you're into expressing yourself creatively, I'm all about finding artistic ways to work together. You don't any experience or talent in art, just simply the desire to try something different to help you work through the tough spots in your life. That said, if art isn't your thing, no problem, I love doing talk therapy too.
*What you Need to Know About Me*
I was born and raised in the Chicagoland area, and love traveling - visiting new cities and getting to know local-culture. Nature, the creative arts, as well as encouraging self-expression are all passionate pursuits of mine, along with a belief that working to understands oneself can be an empowered journey!
I am a licensed clinical professional counselor, and board-certified art therapist with an educational background from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago, as well as proud alumni of an HBCU, Spelman College.
