Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know it’s time to see a therapist?

The best time to consider working with a therapist is when you’re ready for a change. Whether it’s an internal or external change, therapy can help you find the insight and encouragement you need to make positive steps towards your future.

If you're struggling with an important relationship, feeling anxious, depressed or unhappy with an aspect of your life, therapy can offer guidance and feedback to help you get where you want to go.

How do I get started?

It takes a bit of courage to start therapy and we want to make it as easy as possible. Please give us a call at 630-580-8080 and we will take it from there! We'll gather some basic information from you, match you to therapist well suited to your needs and get a day and time booked on the calendar. You are welcome to see your therapist in person or via telehealth - or even some combination of the two. During your first session your therapist will get to know you, build a treatment plan and kick things off so you can feel better quickly.

What insurance do you expect?

We are in network with BCBS and Blue Choice PPO plans, Aetna PPO plans and United/Optum Healthcare. For all other insurance plans, we will be happy to provide you with a super bill that you can submit to your carrier to seek any reimbursement you may be entitled to. At this time, we do not work with HMO plans or Medicare and Medicaid.

Do you offer a sliding scale for your services?

Yes, we offer sliding scale on a limited basis to those who meet the financial requirements. Additionally, we have masters level interns in our practice who have some availability to see clients on a greatly reduced fee. When you call us just let us know you are interested in sliding scale, and we will work with you to determine the best path forward.

Do you offer free consultations?

Our highly skilled intake team is more than happy to talk with you about your specific needs and make a therapist recommendation based on who they feel would be the best fit for your unique situation. In addition, we encourage you to visit the therapist's profile page to learn more about them. In our experience, it's best to schedule an initial session with a therapist so you can spend a full hour with them to make sure you feel comfortable working with them. If for any reason you don't feel that particular therapist is a good match for you, we would be more than happy to work with you to find another therapist who is.

What can I expect during my first session?

Our first meeting together is called an intake session. This an opportunity for us to understand why you’re interested in therapy or a consultation. In this session, we will gather all the necessary information to get a clear picture of where you are and what you hope to accomplish. This is also an opportunity for you to ask whatever questions you might have about your therapist and the process.

Your comfort in working with your therapist will be one of the most significant factors determining a successful outcome. We want you to feel confident that she is the right person for you to share your story with. If, for any reason, you feel you would be happier working with someone else, we will refer you to another therapist better suited to your needs. However, if at the end of the initial session you would like to continue working together, we will schedule a day and time for your next appointment.

How often are sessions?

Consistency yields the best results, so in the beginning we believe it’s important to meet weekly in order to build momentum and for your therapist to really get to know you. Once we’ve worked together for a while, we can discuss the possibility of spacing your sessions out over a longer time. If you’re coming in for (un)Therapy, we will meet based on your schedule and the goals you’re trying to reach. We might meet weekly, or we might meet for longer, less-frequent sessions.

How long does it take to see results?

It different for everyone and depends greatly on the reasons you want to start therapy and what some of your goals are. In general, we feel it takes a minimum of 8 sessions to really see results but some clients begin to feel better sooner. We have clients that have a very specific issue they want to work on and once they reach their goal they are done with therapy. We have other clients that like having "their person" to talk to and stay in therapy for a much longer time. Let's discuss your specific needs and decide together what works best for you!

What is your cancellation policy?

We respectfully ask for 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment as we hold that day and time exclusively for you. No-shows or cancellations made without 24 hours notice will be charged a $100 fee unless:

  • We are able to get you rescheduled within the same week (We'll try our best, but it’s not always possible).
  • We meet for the session online instead of face-to-face.
  • An unexpected emergency arises. If that happens, we will discuss your circumstances and determine whether the fee applies.
Do you offer online therapy or video conferencing?

Yes. With the state of the world at the moment, we understand the need for safety and privacy. We offer online therapy via our secure, HIPAA-compliant video-conference platform. It's the same great therapy delivered on your couch instead of ours.
