How I Can Help
More About Vanessa
Do you ever feel like on the outside you have it all together, but on the inside, you’re overwhelmed and hurting? Perhaps it feels like time is slipping by. You know something needs to change, but you’re not sure what. If you have stood in a room full of people you know and love but felt completely alone, I could be the right therapist for you. If you’ve ever woken up already feeling burnt out by the day ahead of you, that there’s too much on your plate and not enough support, that in your efforts to manage your many roles you’ve lost a sense of who you are – I can help you with that.
Or, maybe you are someone who has felt like you never quite fit in, having never really figured out how to create connections unless you’re putting on some sort of mask. If you’ve been told you’re “too much” or “too sensitive,” we could be a good match. If you’ve ever found yourself wondering, “How can they do this without so much anxiety and I can’t?” I can help you find answers to that question.
What To Expect from Our Work Together
You’ll find I’m an accepting person who has a passion to provide unconditional care and positive regard for my clients. I enjoy listening deeply and will help you figure out what therapy can do for you. I practice a client-centered and strengths-based approach, so this will be a collaborative process where I will help build skills to amplify your voice, teach you how to identify which of your needs are unmet, define your boundaries and grow your confidence. Together, we will figure out how to get you where you want to be.
What You Need to Know About Me
I started studying Psychology at a young age and let that passion spill into my academic career. I returned to school after starting a family and earned a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Benedictine University. It was one of the best and most satisfying decisions I have made in my life.
I have a neurodiverse family. If you’ve ever had to advocate for yourself or loved ones, felt like you needed a community you didn’t have, or were diagnosed “late in life”. then there’s a good chance we have a lot in common. I also have a science-loving, art-obsessed family. When I’m not in the office, I’m probably off making costumes, in a museum, or at a nature preserve being brave enough to hold bugs while they’re identified by my kids.
As a neurodiversity-affirming therapist, I wholeheartedly understand there are unique mental health obstacles and traumas. Inspired by my adventures in neurodiverse communities, I’m now working towards earning my ADHD Clinical Services Provider Certification (ADHD-CCSP) and will always be a neurodiversity-affirming therapist seeking to educate and grow our communities.
